Is there a Web site that provides some sort of ranking for PhD programs in French or Romance Languages?

Also, what's the deal with a combined BA/MA from undergrad? Would I complete the PhD program earlier since I've already written a master's dissertation?

Be sure to know which Romance Language you wish to study. It varries greatly from department to department. I would look at the following PHD programs for the following languages:

As you can see, there are some pretty big differences from Romance language to Romance language.

For undergraduate, Middlebury is supposed to be excellent.

Thank you so much for the info. Where did you find this? I want to go for French but I have also studied Italian and Latin. I'm doing undegrad (BA/MA) in French at Bryn Mawr right now. But yes, Middlebury does have excellent language instruction. I went to one of their summer language immersion programs and had a blast.

I got the information by crossing the Gourman Report/Princeton Review with the NRC. Yale is the outright #1 program. Penn is highly regarded, and since you go to BMC, you may be a very attractive candidate to them. The other programs on the list are all very highly reharded too. My sister did her PhD at McGill a few years ago, so that's another option you may want to look at.

Why would a BMC major be attractive to Penn? Wouldn't it be just as highly regarded elsewhere?

BMC is awesome and respected by all universities. However, BMC has a history with Penn and I am sure that will play a role in their admissions decision.
