Fresh - Pictures of Mount Vernon

First off, I hope all the incoming freshman enjoy their time at Kenyon. I'll be a sophomore this year, I'm in Mather (408 Wellness).

Anyway, I live in Mount Vernon and last year I took pictures so my class could see the surrounding, ummm.... area? It's not a city, only 14,000 people.

Anyway, here they are. If you have any questions about what Mount Vernon has/doesn't have, or anything like that, just ask. I'm more than happy to tell you about it.

If you are used to living in the suburbs you might be in for a massive shock. My advice is to embrace the small town and the culture and make the best of it. A visit to L&G dairy is a must :)

Hey thanks for the pictures. When I did my overnight at Kenyon I didn't really go into Mt. Vernon (except for a brief 2am Taco Bell run) so I've been curious as to what it looks like. I can't imagine I'll be going into town really frequently, but I'm glad I have an idea as to how it looks. And I have to say, it looks pretty nice! I loved seeing a lot of the small towns when I visited these rural LAC's (Walla Walla Washington was surprisingly REALLY nice) and It'll be a cool transition come August.

Fiesta Mexicana is also a must!!

I second that. One of my favorite places to eat...out of anyhwere I have ever been. Part of that may be going with friends and the atmosphere...but the food is quite tasty as well.

haha those pics are awesome! So funny seeing those on here, as Ive lived in the mount vernon area for about 8 years. I actually live in Apple Valley, a "lake resort community" about 10 minutes out of Mt.vernon. I actually used to work at the Jakes restaurant in pic 50, and kenyon kids would come in all the time. BTW, im a senior at east knox high school and will be applying to kenyon!!! Its not my first choice simply for the fact that its about 10minutes from my house, but its definitely the most comfortable and at home feeling of all the colleges ive visited.

hey rhunter. i know who you are. i graduated from EK as well, in 2005. Kenyon is awesome. There are three EK graduates here now. me (Sophie), Ashley V, and Allison G.

Maybe I'll come to the school over Thanksgiving ang give a presentation like I did last year. I can answer any of your questions.

See you around.

oooh hey Sophie! yeah i remember you coming over for that presentation last year! This seems so crazy that someone i know is actually on here...but anyways, Im almost positive that i will be applying to Kenyon, so who knows, maybe ill see you on campus next fall!!
