Freshman Class Selection Advice

Hey, so I’m going to be majoring in BME this year. I was reading the BME undergrad page, and its recommended first semester classes are 18 credits total. I also read somewhere that we should expect 2-4 hours per credit of homework (not sure how legit that is). With my math mind, I figured wouldn’t 18 credits be 36-72 hours of homework per week? 36 sounds manageable, but I’m not so sure if I can do 72 hours of homework and still sleep and have a life. So am I misinterpreting something or should I think about removing a class?

Back in 1982 it was the same thing…18 credits for freshman year. It’s doable.

What I have understood from my son at Case, is that the drop policy is liberal. So sign up for all the credits and drop the class you do not like, if it proves to be too much for you. Might as well try it and see how it goes, but manage your time and figure out which classes are going to be doable sooner rather than later. BME really has a lot of requirements, thus the heavy loads required to finish in four years. Case offers good research opportunities between Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals. Be sure to sign up for a research experience soon.

Make sure to keep track of when the Drop/Add date is!
