Freshman dorm stereotypes!!!

So there are Andrews, Curtis.. and some others... What dorms are u applying for and why?? what are the stereotypes???

stereotypes:

Stillman – the party dorm, the people who smoke weed live there
East – the nerdy dorm, people there are smart and involved with community service
Gate House – the ghetto - it was supposed to be a temporary house that turned into a permanent dorm. The rooms are big though, but that’s about all the good about it
Andrews – the hardest dorm to get into. It has huge suites, nice rooms, but don’t rely on living there
Curtis – the biggest freshman dorm on campus, but its rooms are tiny. Apart from that it is nice inside, and because of its size you get a lot of diversity in there.
West – I don’t think it really carries any stereotype attached to it. Rooms are big enough, the building is nice, you can’t really go wrong with West.

With all due respect to nz12, freshman room assignments are made randomly, so there is really no way for certain dorms to develop “stereotypes.” Maybe in any given year you might find a higher-than-average concentration of certain personality types in a given living unit, but every year starts with a clean slate – unless there is something in the carpet fibers that induces that type of behavior, which I doubt. Of course, you could always request to be placed with other weed-smokers and see what happens…

wow thanks alot nz12 … that helps… my top choice are andrews and curtis… but iam didnt ed…no 0% getting into andrews

Thanks so much!
I heard that last year all the international students are put in the same building. Is it true? Anyone talks about their opinions about it?

that sounds so much like discrimination…

It really doesn’t matter where you live. I have friends in every dorm and they love it there.

International students are placed just like everyone else.

Andrews is trashy, loud, and an awful place to live. Stillman is awesome, curtis is awesome, east is great, west is ok, and everyone that lives in 'gate house loves it.

If anyone is worrying about dorms, which dorm they’re going to live in, etc., it’s not worth it. You get placed randomly, no one can request a dorm. Trust me, you’ll love where you end up regardless of sterotypes.

^ I respectfully disagree.

I wouldn’t judge how a dorm is based on how it was during one academic year. I bet how a dorm is depends on what kind of student body resides in it.

As a student, who has seen 2-3 years of Andrews, it has been the same atmosphere year to year.

But yes, the residents in the dorm definetly make the dorm, for the most part.

Live in Stillman

From my experience Stillman has the reputation of pot heads. But again, doesn’t matter where you live. Just enjoy the experience. :)

What is Andrews like? Not just the reputation, but what are the big suites like, etc.?

What are the rooms like in Curtis?

The common room is big enough that all four desks fit in there, my d had their futon, a bigger fridge, a rug down etc. On the adult end, easily six to eight of us could still stand in the room. The bedrooms were decent sized- there was room to walk between the two beds. They were put up higher so there was room under the beds, she had shelves in there that we bought. The other room had a humongous closet that they hung up all of their stuff in. The boys across the hall had a corner room with a fireplace that the common room was huge. Never went in there to see more than that to help you with dimensions. When she went, there were blueprints of each room on the web. We tried to find them the next year for her dorm and never did.
Hope this helps
