Ok so I’m in the honors program and I cannot decide what dorm I want to live in. I know that Wall is a lot nicer, but I don’t want to be isolated or closed off, I still want a good social life. Also is it weird having a professor and their family live in the dorm? I kind of think that I want the classic freshman dorm experience like Monroe or Sharp, but I wanted to know if they still studied or if it really was just partying all the time? Although I do assume that if you go to Tulane, you are smart, and you also want to party. Any tips or suggestions?
My understanding is that incoming students will not be given a choice this year. The only sure bet is to go with the honors dorm. Don’t fret, it will be fine
Why wouldn’t there be a choice? I haven’t heard anyhting like that.
but what’s the honors dorm like?I dont want to be cut off, I still want to be able to have fun as well.
@tulane22 You won’t be cut off from the other dorms. You’ll have plenty of friends in the “social dorms” as well as Wall. The difference at Wall is that when you want to actually go to sleep you will be able to, and also you won’t have to share your bathroom with 100 other people.
If you want to live in a particular dorm you need to apply to the RLC that will be housed there. They are trying to do away with students selecting a specific dorm and move towards choosing a community.
So you can’t choose a dorm at all unless it’s an RLC?
This year you will not be able to preference regular dorms on the housing application, you will only be able to preference RLC’s. However, I wouldn’t recommend preffing an RLC based on what dorm it is in because they can change locations based on how much interest/space is available.
But could someone tell me about what what the dorms, specifically Wall, Monroe, and Sharp are actually like?
Monroe and Sharp are old dorm buildings. The rooms are traditional dorm room doubles with the bathroom down the hall. Monroe is 12 stories tall, Sharp is 7 stories on one side and 4 on the other. They are both co-ed by wing. Wall is suite style which means you share a bathroom between 2 rooms. This is great because the bathroom is only shared by the 2 rooms, but you do need to keep clean. Check out the old article about the Tulane dorms

But what’s it like to live in them though? I’ve done a lot of research, but I want to hear from actual people.
where is this information posted?
^ about not being able to choose your dorms next year
I lived in Wall my freshman year and it was not your typical honors dorm. The atmosphere at Wall definitely depend on the people on your floor. My floor was rowdy as heck, but there were other quiet floors. Overall, people were really active in extra curricular, parties/going out, and various city activities. I feel like Wall is the embodiment of ‘Work hard, play hard’. The high grades peeps get and the number of tequila sunrise parties vouch for that.
@katesett You will get lots of information about the housing selection process directly from housing as the housing process gets rolling, but I know the information because I help out in the admissions office!
Live in Wall!!! I’m a Tulane sophomore and i lived in Greenbaum, but I wanted Wall so badly. It is super nice and you will definitely not be isolated. Its a large dorm and you will get to know the people on your floor, and you can always head over to sharp or monroe if you’re dying to
