Freshman Rank #2 of 466

"Freshman year, they didn't rank anybody as #1. All the kids with 4.0s were #2, because there were like 20 of us; once it got down below ten (first semester of sophomore year) they started giving out a #1 rank."

I think this may have happened because I talked to some of my friends in regular classes who got a 4.0 and they also have class rank #2. And they're in easy classes. So I think it's the same for everyone and possibly there's no #1.

My sentiments exactly.

Wait, #2? Come on thats pathetic, what kind of failure are you? Huh? Do you expect to even go to a State school with that crap? How have your parents not kicked you out of the house yet? JK

Yea, some schools do that when its this early in your career there. Since there is an inordinate amount of students with those grades, they'll just say #2 for every one at that level so they don't hurt any feelings.

Wow, #2? You life must really be #2...a complete ****ter.

school rankings are stupid

"why don't you focus on trying to be your best instead of trying to be someone else's best?"

So true...I hate people (okay not "hate") that take specific courses just in order to be "number one."

And I was happy to be 47 out of 493 freshman year......

Class rank means NOTHING to me. It hasn't got me anywhere in life and once your in college nobody will care. I am 69/402 and I got into the same college as 2/402.

Hey, the fastest starters don't always win. Just keep on working hard and everything should work out OK. Some colleges (e.g. Princeton) don't even take freshman grades into account. Class ranks aren't a sprint; they're specifically designed to figure out who can take the hardest classes consistently at the highest level for 3.5 to 4 years.

Actually, I don't think administrators should even bother giving out ranks until the second semester of sophomore year at the very earliest. So many things can change after freshman year...

see what you need to worry about is maintaing that #2 position. Soph and junior year are gonna be much harder than frosh year trust me. My first semester junior year was like a weeder semester. All these kids got all A's before even though they were not that smart. In junior year many got B's and it really narrowed down the field for all A's.

You are a failure. Everyone knows that #2's end up working at Burger King AT BEST. Yeah, go ahead and drop out. Life is no longer worth living.[/sarcasm]

Seriously, it is freshman year for you. Why do you care?

just wait till you get to junior year and find out you're #40 or something

Why is this thread still alive?

Oh, that's right. It's because of people like me who respond to it.

Second place is first loser.

Even though it's been said, I feel that I should repeat that it does NOT matter at this stage of the game. Don't stress yourself about it.

hahahahaa i'm a freshman and i am quite pleased with 7/430! i have all a's in honors too!

To be honest, don't worry about it as a freshman. Its freshman year. All the classes are easy. Honors classes are even easy as a freshman. Wait, till you actually have harder class and tons of APs to worry about it. Ranks change so easier...so relax!

Yeah im not worried about it, but what opportunities do I have of taking IB classes to boost my gpa. I see plenty of AP opportunities but like no outside IB classes

Why would you take outside IB classes...?

***? you shouldn't take classes to boost your gpa..

Come on, people do it all the time. I don't understand why I'm getting so much crap for this. Well I do but it shouldn't be the case. I was just asking.
