Hey! I am a freshman with an average GPA of a 4.01 and taking 1 AP course. I haven’t earned anything less than B- in any of my classes, and I did, and plan on, taking 2 sciences every year of high school. I qualify for NHS, which I will apply for my sophomore year. I participated in Key Club, as well as the spring Track and Field team. I live in Pennsylvania, but my dream school always been Stanford University, to study biology. My goal in the future is to either go into the medical field or engineering, as my masters. I want to in the future receive my PhD. I was wondering if anybody had any tips to make me a stronger candidate to Stanford admissions. It might seem like this is too early for me to plan, but I see it as more time to make myself a viable candidate.
Thanks!
Think carefully about wanting to go into engineering without an engineering undergrad. You will have a LOT to catch up on. Like basically everything.
I know, I have leaning more toward a bachelor’s in cellular and developmental biology, then going to medical school and studying obstetrics and gynecology.
Studying biology then going into medical school makes sense. Studying biology then trying to go into engineering of any sort does not. If you want to go to Stanford that bad and be an engineer, (biomedical would seem to fit your interests), study Management Science & Engineering. It’s as close as you get to undergrad engineering at Stanford.
This is (in my opinion) one of the best pieces on the web regarding preparing for elite college admissions:

Replace “MIT” with Stanford.
You are off to a good start with an AP class as a freshman. The Key club and track team will not carry much weight. I recommend attempting to do some type of research in biology or a related field. It is important to show you have passion about something. Even if you change your mind about biology in college, the goal now is to get admitted.
