Freshman Seminar Abroad (Study Abroad(

Has anybody done the Freshman Seminar Abroad? the 2week program abroad for incoming freshman during the summer? If so, can you tell me where you went and how it was. What was your freedom like, as in was it like summer camp and being supervised? or could you go out at night? how was the night life? etc. etc. thanks!

Since nobody has replied I thought I’d chime in, I can’t exactly help you with a Freshman Seminar but I wanted to say that my daughter did a 2 week study abroad in London over winter break (xmas-new years). You had to have jr. status to apply, she did but was still technically a sophomore. She was the youngest on her trip, she had a blast. She didn’t know anyone on her trip but met some great kids and was so glad she went. They were busy with class work early in the day then from about 1pm to dinner had organized activities (usually sighseeing or excursions). The evenings were mostly unstructured. Groups of kids organized “activities”, meaning pubs and clubs. They went to a theater musical one night too. I don’t know if they would keep a tighter grip on freshman or not. My son just completed a high school European trip and it was very structured during the day but not so much so at night. The kids were legal to drink in Italy and took advantage of that : )

If you can afford to go I’m sure it would be a great experience. This is one of the benefits of MSU, it is the #1 public university for study abroad ( I believe I read it is only second to NYU overall). Good luck!

I’m waiting to hear back from Professor Sheridan about the Cultures of Creativity seminar.

2 weeks and 1 day, so far…
