So I am very interested in the Biology and Economics seminars, both of which are my major(s).

Will this appear as not branching out to medical schools?
Or does it not even matter?

Should I lean more towards the Bio ones or other ones that I would normally not take like Psychology or Sociology, which I also like.

Definitely take the one you find the most interesting. Medical schools won’t care either way, so use it as an opportunity to explore a topic you like. I’d recommend checking out CTEC’s for any seminar you preference (Is that still how you do it? I entered Weinberg in 2007 so it might have changed). Some seminars sound great from the course description, but in reality they’re either incredibly dull or not well-taught by the professor. The course reviews from former students can be really helpful in determining which might suit you the best.

I’m pretty sure that freshman seminars really don’t matter. They don’t give any credit towards any requirements save the seminar requirement itself, and don’t serve as prereqs for anything. Just look through the list and see what looks good. We have to rank a top ten, anyway.

But CTECs are definitely still your friend. Look them up by professor, you’ll be able to see if there’s any complaints that keep coming up again and again.

I’d like to second the previous posters – don’t worry too much about what department the seminar is in, as long as it’s a topic you find interesting. I would strongly recommend looking up the professors for the seminars you’re interested in using the CTEC search. Very useful.

yeah go for an interesting class. it wont matter at all. also, it might be a good way to get a distro out of the way
