I’m just wondering how much does freshman year matter for college? Also if my school gives A+ but doesn’t count them into the GPA do colleges see them/do they still help. Thanks for your answers.
Most colleges will look at your transcript and recalculate your GPA based on their own formulas. So while the UCs do not use freshman grades, most other colleges do.
Also, most merit aid use the entire high school GPA.
So having an A+ for your freshman year is a very good thing.
Thanks for your input. I have an A+ in math so I was wondering if it’s worth it to keep it up.
One thing about math: What you take next year will in almost every case depend on what you are taking now and what you were taking last year. Having a solid A+ in math now is going to help you next year and the year after.
Also, universities will look at your actual grades. If you get an A+ on your record, they will see this regardless of whether or not it shows up in your GPA.
Universities in Canada and most of the Universities of California will not care about your freshman year. For the really top universities (Harvard, MIT level) you need to be very strong for all four years. Most other universities are somewhere in the middle, with the freshman year mattering, but not as much as your next two years.
However, regardless of where you end up applying to university, having done well in your freshman year will help you do well next year and the year after.
