Freshman year over..grades in..sigh of relief

I am a current HS Senior and I received the Regent's Scholarship at UC Berkeley, where I will have to keep a 3.0 GPA to renew it each year. The scholarship is $18,555 per year, so it's a little bit of pressure.

Congratulations Overseas...In all the excitement of receiving scholarship offers, it's easy to overlook the hard work it takes to keep them.

Lees-McRae College Performing Arts has come upon some recent additional scholarships so has opened up for more applications and will accept new and transfer students in the fall. LMC Performing Arts is a generalists degree where the student is in a competency-based program studying many areas; acting, directig, music, dance, management, choreography, etc., but can emphasize one area such as musical theatre or theatre. LMC also has a Theatre Arts Education degree. Go to www.lmc.edu for more information. Or, if interested, e-mail speerj@lmc.edu

PackMom -- from a college student, THANK YOU for being such a great mom (and what a fitting day to tell you that!) and recognizing that those B-'s are fine grades to get considering the work that your son put in. I have a lot of friends with parents (and often my own) who find it very easy to forget the difficulty of making the same grades in college that we did in high school.

And congrats to your son on keeping the scholarship!

lindz0722...Thanks for the kind words. I know he worked hard and thats's all I expect of him. I think parents also need to remember that way back when we were in college (at least in our state), there were no grades with +'s and -'s. We just had A,B,C, etc. So even the very lowest B still got you 3 points whereas now that lowest B only gets todays students 2.66 points which when added up over a couple of classes makes a big difference in gpa.
