Freshman year vs IB

How hard is freshman year compared to IB (international baccalaureate) course?

Gracias

my son earned an IB diploma and just finished freshman year at Tech. Some freshman take Calculus 3. (Multivariable) after taking linear algebra first semester freshman year, if you place out of Calc 1 and 2. Honors Multivariable calculus at Tech is very very challenging. I think IB is a lot of reading and writing but not really that hard according to both of my sons. College will require you to do a lot more problem sets each week in any math, physics or engineering class. So this is a lot of problem sets per week and requires good study habits, and staying on top of things. as soon as you fall a little behind, work through the weekend to catch up. Falling behind is what gets most freshman and its best not to let that happen at Tech.

IB is about reading and writing unless you took the class after HL mathematics. HL mathematics does ask students to solve proofs, but its the very beginning of discrete mathematics. Everything at any good college is harder than IB. IB is very good though to learn to read and write and to get physics, chemistry concepts learned and to learn the beginning of calculus if you take SL or HL math. Tech requires less reading but more problem sets per week, for many majors. If you major in business at Tech, you may be doing a lot of reading.

It depends on your major, how many problem sets you will be doing per week and your math skills and IQ will determine how fast you can learn the material in college. It will be a great challenge and thats what you are paying for at Tech.

@Coloradomama Thank you !
