freshmen clusters? benefits/disadvantages?

I'll be a freshman at UCLA in the fall. What are the benefits to taking freshmen clusters? What are the disadvantages?

The clusters sound pretty boring. I think I would rather learn a variety of things taking 3 different GE courses. BTW, how many GE units will I be fulfilling by taking a cluster?

To those UCLA ppl who were freshmen at UCLA: Did you decide to take a cluster? why or why not?

There are plenty of threads on clusters in the past couple months that should answer your questions.

But here's the info briefly.

Benefits: same students, better discussions, year-long, 3 GE courses, Writing II requirement, seminar requirement, up to 15 Honors unit + Honors Collegium, spreading out papers over 2 quarters, unique topics that are interdisciplinary, great professors that care, priority enrollment

Disadvantages: year long, may cause scheduling conflicts for all 3 quarters, intensive (it's honors after all), a lot of the benefits don't pay off until the end (so dropping it just wastes your efforts)

Yes I did because it came with a ton of benefits...

My best guess is that 1/3 of the freshmen class enrolls in a cluster.
