I was an engineering student but now have switched to geology and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about Fresno State's Geology program and if it is any good? I would like to work in the energy industry and would like to attend grad school at Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, or the Colorado School of Mines(preferably CSM or OU). Will I be able to get into these schools with a BS from Fresno State? I have a 3.65 gpa but hopefully will increase that over the next few years I am a sophomore now.

Without question it would be possible to get in from Fresno St to the schools mentioned. CSM will be the most competitive. Is it a certainty… nothing in life is, but with good effort and good references shouldnt really be a problem. Put in a good effort, really absorb the material, try and get to know some profs, shoudl be good.

BTW… I lived in Bakersfield for a long time a couple of times

As to Fresno State, I dont know it specifically, but the list of professors looked solid… CAlifornia schools usually are good, due to access to field outcrops…

This would be my approximate list of ‘energy masters’ one mans opinion

… many other good programs…if you appled to these, you would have several choices… also try and get some summer work, Bakersfield would be a good place to start :)
