Friend Chances

Hi Guys
This is for a friend of mine.

Rank: 13/463
ACT: 28
Chemistry SAT II 660
Biology SAT II 710

Anyone please? I would really appreciate any take on these stats.

eh

so-so chances w/o more info

if you put these stats in an academic index calculator (28 ACT = 1260 SAT & assuming roughly a 680 for a third SATII) the scores is a 200, or a 3 out of 9. the ECs would have to be amazing and the essays spactacular for this person to have a chance. this would definitely be a high reach for someone who doesn't have a very good hook. recruited athlete or minority might work. don't know though because we don't have any more of the person's stats.

chances= reach

also, not having much to do with this topic but what does "exceptional extracurrics" mean, I see that often but when I think back to the common app, they give you a certain [small] number of slots and ask that you put down only the most meaningful, so does giving a long laundry list equate to having a few that one has devoted 2+ years to.. i don't get it, is it the years of participation that holds more weight or a long list... just wondering.

hmm ur act might be low. can you post some ecs, etc?
and there's really no point in saying that it's your friends information

lol funny ^^

Actually, Josmith, it really IS my friend... I'm sure that if you had lots of time on your hands, you could find my stats somewhere on this website.

He's President of Key Club, runs a Bingo program at the local nursing home every Sunday, is an assistant to two Chemistry teachers, Captain of the Envirothon team (they do Biology and Environmental Science competitions), and in National Honor Society.

He is a white male.

He comes from a low income family, and he hopes to major in chemistry and get his doctorate in Pharmacy. Essays probably wont be anything spectacular...he's not a very good writer.

Again reach.

However can I ask you this. Is he your "friend" or just someone you want to compare stats with to see who has a higher chance. Sorry if this is invading your privacy... but reach.

low income family changes everything. if he applies HEOP or somthing, he might get in lol so take that back, NOT a reach, but close to one. but if hes interested in pharmD. why not try schools for that like rutgers and st. john, they actually have the program whereas cornell will allow you to school for 4 years THEN another umm i guess 4 years pharmD school= 8? whereas programs allow you to get a pharmD in 6 years...

Gyros, he is my best friend. Rest, thank you for the input. He's already applied to:

University of Pittsburgh
Carnegie Mellon
Washington University St. Louis
Saint Louis University
UIC
UIUC
Cornell
University of Michigan

He's thinking of applying to one or two more safe schools. I'll let him know about Rutgers and St. John, thank you, but are there any other safe schools that offer shorter pharmacy programs that you think he would have a good chance of getting in and actually affording. BTW, he's completely on his own when it comes to financing his education. Lots of loans, I'm assuming.

Thanks!

Any good schools in NYC that he might have a chance at? He would like to go there.
