from cmu to penn or columbia, my chances?

hello,

im a freshmen at carnegie mellon, and i am trying to apply to penn or columbia for 2007 fall transfer. I would like to hear my chances of getting in from you guys.

my college GPA 4.0
courses that i took: comparative politics,
chinese culture and society,
chinese
reading and writing in multicultural context
computer skills - pass
and i take calculus, world history, modern china, chinese, and one seminar course for 2nd semester

my high school gpa is 3.5 (3.7 until jr, and got 3.68, 2.3, and 3.00 in my senior yr)
SAT M:700 W:710 R:700
E.C prefect, soccer captain, green key, student council, and those pretty necessary and noraml e.c stuff

im applying to college of arts n science as an east asian language n civilization major. I'm hoping that my nationality(korean) and fluent in japanese, and learning chinese + taking many chinese courses would help my chances of getting in as east asian civilization major.

I think you have a good shot, especially considering that you are enrolled at Carnegie Mellon and managed a 4.0. However, the courses you have taken seem too narrow, and not broad enough. Obviously, you have a strong penchant for Asian cultural studies.

I'm not so sure about the Asian aspect, but I'm not sure if it will hurt or assist you, but as far as I am aware, your not the only Asian student looking to transfer to another institution.

Although in general a narrow focus is not a bad thing IMO, ahighschooler does have a point in that you'll have to convince Columbia that you're excited about their core program (which is, of course, broad).

hmm i didn't realize the narrow focus might hurt me. i was even thinking of it as a hook, sth that can help me since cmu dun have east asian studies but penn/columbia do. im worried that my high school grades are too low especially with that 2.3 out of 4.0 in senior yr...... i was in passionate love...lol i dun regret tho
