From Iowa City-how U amenities gaining impact

On selecting a college. The current building boom and new dorms at UW have been very strategic to keep it attractive-especially to higher paying OOS students. Rec centers still a bit behind the curve but adequate for now.

The article states that academics are still number one, the rest of the package merely helps. The UW Res Halls building plan is part of their long term plans for updating facilities, not being done to attract OOS students. The 25 year plan discusses the need to update facilities (some were old back in my day) and the timeline for doing so. Rec facilities improvements are dependent on student willingness to increase fees to pay for them- voted down recently.

Wrong as usual. Part of the reason for the expansion is to have enough rooms to have them for ALL freshmen and better quality rooms that are in demand today from students and their parents. It is a key part of the plan to keep UW attractive to ALL including OOS students and help attract the best of them. The UW knows it needs them badly even if it bugs you.
