Hi everybody!
I was rejected by MIT and got accepted into MITx. I'm very a happy and grateful for that. There're many reasons one can not get a ticket to college. The world is changing so fast, and I've come to realize I no longer need to go to a campus to study. MOOC gives me a chance to show that I have a potential to grow just as many other students who are accepted into MIT. I can even do it better if I keep working patiently and diligently. In my application, I said to MIT that I wanted to be an educator, and so I've been working towards it.

I’m confused by what you mean when you say “got accepted into MITx”. Anyone may enroll in a MITx course or complete a track; there is no admissions process.

I personally think that MOOCs are not currently developed well enough to give the type of education one can receive on campus. (In fact, I am also doing an open enrollment course - at Harvard - but I am specifically going for on-campus classes for this reason.) But perhaps that’s a topic for another post.

It is true that facts, raw data, and certain technical skills can be learned with an online course.
But an MIT education is far more than that.

MITx is open to all students, giving them equal chances to be successful. The fact that any poor student can get a good college education he deserves gives me the vision of a world without discrimination. No longer do I need to worry about my ability to afford a college degree so as to prove that I’m qualified for a job. And in the near future, with the support of advanced technology, we’ll probably have video forum on MOOC, promoting interaction, discussion and team work. And we have all types of students coming from all nations, contributing to the diversity and liveliness of online classes.

@studentatMITx - It’s a wonderful goal, and I hope we reach it. I also think that one can get a lot of valuable education out of MOOCs. That said, I think there is currently a gap.

Just to be clear, no matter how great MITx is, you need to get a degree at a college or university in order to get a job (unless you are in software and have a lot of job experience). No one will give you a job because of performance in MOOCs alone. Some of them don’t even verify your identity, so anybody could be taking it.

Use MITX to bolster and enrich your education, not as a replacement for it.

MITX is growing, but right now, they don’t have anywhere near the full slate of classes for each major. In general, they have many first year classes plus a smattering of second year classes.
