I got accepted into all 3 schools. Money is not an issue for me. My major is bio. I would like to go to ASU but my dad does not want me to go there because it is ranked poorly by us news. Psu is the best school according to us news. I live in Pennsylvania and would like to get away from the cold however it's not too big of a deal. I heard penn state is brutally cold and the dorms are old and run down. My dad said that psu would give me the best opportunity after graduating so I am leaning towards psu. He claims that the only thing a company can judge you on is your grades and the school you went to. If I went t ASU it would not look good because everyone can get in there. I was also thinking that I will be surrounded by better academic students who are more focused on
Grades at psu. They are also a prestigious school so it would look good to have a degree from there. Also I like Pitt and they are also prestigious. I do not know what to do! I Haveto make a decision soon. Any advice or information on the colleges would be helpful. It seems like ASU is out of the cards for me as it is not a prestigious school. And penn state is the best choice academically. Thank you

Sorry for the poor format and jumbled organization I typed this on my phone.

Hey! These are all great schools, you can’t lose! :)

If you haven’t already, can you visit each school? That should help with making your choice.

If you plan on working in the north east, after graduation, then PSU and PITT would be the better choice.

Good Luck!!

The dorms here are not “run down” at PSU - they’re old, but so are a majority of collegiate dorms due to the high cost of renovating them. Besides, at Penn State, youre most likely going to spend 1 year, freshman year, in the dorms before you move downtown.

Are you doing bio as a route to medical school? Because generally speaking those who are more serious about medical school go to Pitt. PSU is a better engineering/business school. The alumni network here is also stronger than Pitts, thats true as well.

Did you get into Barrett (the Honors College) or just ASU?
If just ASU, I’d advise either PSU or Pitt.
Your employer will judge you on other experiences, like internships, as well as grades and school. After a few years in your job, where you went undergrad will not matter at all (except to snobs).

After visiting PSU I’ve concluded that it is a great place to learn and go to school. The biggest cons for me was the size. It was just too big for me personally, but after seeing your choices it shouldn’t be a problem. The dorms aren’t run down but they are definitely older the lower ceiling tends to mislead people. The dorm itself is fine but the bathrooms could really use a renovation. State college is a beautiful area and mount Nittany is stunning even though it is colder than ASU. Pitt is a great school too. It is just a different feel then PSU. It is in a larger city and there are so many colleges in downtown pittsburgh it’s almost as though it’s one big college. I will be visiting Pitt very soon and will have better insight soon.

Thank you everyone !

Is ASU Arizona State? People look at the US News rankings out of context: Arizona State is ranked as one of the top 150 national universities; there are 2,500 4-year universities and colleges in the United States. Even if you count only the 4-year public universities, there are 629 of them and Arizona State is in the top 150. That’s in the top 25%.

Your dad is also not quite correct about this:

He claims that the only thing a company can judge you on is your grades and the school you went to

Employers also judge you what classes you took, what skills you have and what kind of experiences you’ve had. You won’t necessarily be surrounded by better, more focused students at Penn State than Arizona State. Penn State and Arizona State’s student bodies are quite similar; they have roughly the same percentage of students in the top 10% and top quarter of their graduating HS classes; roughly the same average SAT and ACT score ranges; and roughly the same average high school GPA ranges.

With that said, though, Penn State or Pittsburgh are probably good options for you because you are in-state there and it is likely less expensive. Where you choose between those two is more dependent on what you’re looking for. Penn State is more of the stereotypical college experience - big sports, college town, etc. UPitt is more of an urban university with lots of other nearby colleges, so the way that students interact with the school and the city will be different.
