FSU Engineering Study Abroad Opportunities

We just completed an FSU tour and D16 really liked the university. Choice of major is up in the air right now, but she’s leaning towards an engineering major - primarily Chemical with the Biomedical concentration. If she goes in that direction, she would probably try for the combined BS/MS program.

One thing that is very important to her is the ability to study abroad. I’ve looked at the FSU International programs, and they don’t appear to offer any programs that would allow her to take engineering courses abroad. She’ll have AP credits to cover a lot of the general requirements, so I’m not sure that FYA is a good fit. Has anyone been able to study abroad for a semester or more taking engineering courses?

I’m a junior ChemE at FSU, and it’s pretty much impossible to study abroad and still take engineering courses. Upper level engineering courses are usually only offered once a year under normal circumstances, at least for chemical engineering.

I would recommend doing a semester abroad before starting any core engineering courses (Mass and Energy Balances I for chemical), during the summer, or doing the first semester abroad. Just make sure that general chemistry II, calculus-based physics I, and calculus II are completed before taking Mass and Energy Balances I.

@Pebblez Thanks for the information!
