Florida State University today announced a record fundraising year. The university raised nearly $113 million during fiscal year 2006. The previous single-year record was $95 million in fiscal 2002.

The FSU Foundation alone raised $93.8 million; the previous record was $75 million in fiscal 2002. The Seminole Boosters and the Research Foundation combined raised the remaining $19.5 million.

"These remarkable totals reflect the reality that university fundraising is a continuous endeavor and demonstrates our donors' belief in the value of private support," said FSU President T.K. Wetherell. "And as FSU continues to emerge as a leader in research education, private giving becomes even more important."

Dollars raised by the FSU Foundation support academic initiatives at the university's colleges, schools and units. Alumni, friends and other supporters entrust the Foundation with managing their generous commitments.

Of the $93.8 million secured by the Foundation, $31.4 million is cash, $13.8 million is pledges, $2.7 million is state matching funds and $45.9 million derives from deferred gifts (wills, trusts and annuities).

"Daily, we seek and manage resources that support the ongoing development of academics at Florida State University," said Marilyn Spores, interim Foundation president. "Donors' commitments today ensure the success of FSU tomorrow."
