FSU vs UF

I got accepted to both schools and majoring in political science. I’m transferring over from MDC

I like FSU because it is said to be in the higher ranking (not by much) than UF for poli sci. It’s right next to the capital so I might have more opportunities to work and internships. The biggest reason why I like FSU is that they offer classes on human rights. If I work in politics I would like to incorporate more human rights and social work/issues into my work.

I like UF because it is said to be the best school in Florida. When I started getting serious about school and starting to do research on what to pick, I eventually learned a lot about the benefits that UF has. Even though I was working on a different major before, UF became my dream school. They have more alumni who are currently working in government and Congress (which is something I would like to do). They’re offering me a higher amount of loans too.

I like FSU better. I have no idea what the difference is in terms of opportunities out of college in the great state of FL between the schools. I can tell you that most of us up north have trouble keeping them apart. Some people even think they are both the same.

You are transferring from a community college? Miami-Dade? You mention UF is giving you more loans. Is that a good thing in that it better covers your cost, or are the two schools both giving you similar packages but UF has more loans in there than FSU? All things equal, you should avoid taking those loans, and I’d go with the school most affordable without them. I don’t think UF is worth much more in loans than FSU.

The COA (cost of attendance) is about the same for UF and FSU (and, in fact for most of the other 12 public universities in Florida). However, they could offer different aid packages. It sounds like UF is offering more financial aid, in the form of larger loans? Nothing wrong with student loans, but be prudent in how much you accept.

Going to a CC (MDC) and then transferring to a 4 year university was already a (likely) wise financial decision.

You’ve listed most of the pro’s and con’s. You can succeed at either school. If UF is your dream school, go for it.
