Fulfilling Graduation Requirements v. Preserving my sanity

So, I'm currently a Freshman with no extra curricular activities. I have obligations at home that force me home immediately from 2:20pm to 6pm everyday, no exceptions. So, I can't do sports or clubs.

However, next year, I will no longer have these obligations, and I'm intent on joining around 2-3 clubs that I've wanted to join all year but couldn't.

(on a separate note, but it'll soon tie in later)

I'm taking APUSH next year (Sophomore Year) along with 5 other Honors courses. I need to take Gym to fulfill a graduation requirement, but I was thinking of taking a directed study period in place of a year of Gym just so I can devout more time after school to extra curricular activities, and study / complete homework in that study period.

However, I can wipe away that 1 year of Gym requirement by playing two sports, consecutively (fall-winter, winter-spring).

So, if I were to do two sports, I imagine that it would be best if I were to stick to them for the next 3 years, and then I'll have my in-school extra curricular, while at the same time taking courses at UMASS and Boston University, and volunteering overseas during the Summer. Then I wouldn't be able to be devoted to the clubs I want to partake in (they meet on the same time that the particular sports have practice)

I'm sorry, I'm rambling.

So, my cumulative question is, should I just take Gym next year, and then participate in Clubs after school for the next 3 years, or should I do 2-3 sports, and forfeit clubs, giving me a direct study hall?

Doing 2-3 sports would take more time than just doing gym…

I don’t think you realize what you’re getting yourself into. Playing a sport isn’t like p.e.

I’d recommend summer gym if you guys have it. I find that a lot of the people in summer gym take it just to be able to take more classes during the regular school year.

It also saves you from the really annoying people in regular gym because the people in summer gym is SOOO much nicer.

Most sports at my school take about 12 hours a week, minimum, whereas PE takes about three…

You have to realize, even football took up so much time and commitment for me. It is serious business. It took about 23+ hours a week during season and even more during summer…

I’m gonna jump in and say playing a sport is a large commitment.

Uhhh yeah, playing a sport takes up a lot of time.

Why don’t you just drop a class? I don’t think it would make a huge difference.

Sports take up way more time than gym. And they actually require effort. You will be very tired after practices and games.

Do whatever you want to do. Just go with it.
