Full Ride to a State School or Paying for an Ivy?

@LucieTheLakie, J and W will cost 29000 after the scholarship andTemple U is a medical school in Philadelphia PA. Rice university in Texas is around 58000, UCs are around 36000.

@benina You should probably start your own thread. You will get more feedback. This one has been going for 16 pages.

Agree with @TempeMom, @benina. Your situation is quite different than the discussion in this thread, which is about the difference between $0 for a state school and full pay at an Ivy. None of your options is inexpensive, so you need to weigh the various pluses and minuses. Medical school will be an extra four years on top of the four at Washington & Jefferson. You need to consider the cost of medical school in your calculations if that’s your child’s preferred path. I live in Philadelphia, so I’m quite familiar with Temple.

Start a new thread and be very clear about how much you can afford to pay each year.

Full ride to a state school, all the way. Going to a major state/land-grant/research school can get a student loads of opportunities equal to that of a student at an ivy. If you want that ivy league sticker, save it for grad school.

To be honest, I have the same problem. But I know that I will have to get a master’s after my bachelor’s, so I’m opting for the full ride. Your employer is going to care more about your masters than your bachelors. Also, a state degree is not bad or viewed negatively. And you’ll have less debt to worry about
