Full Tuition Merit Scholarship for BC?

During the information session, the speaker noted that several EA candidates are given a full merit scholarship.

I was browsing the website, but couldn’t find any information, or even a name for the scholarship.

If anyone knows about this: do you have to apply for it separately, or are all EA candidates just considered when they apply?

on the note of merit based scholarships, is it true they are uncommon?

Basically, merit scholarships are rare for extremely prestigious, TOP 10 schools because:

a) all their students are smart anyway, it would be ridiculous to single out one genius from another

b) they don't need to offer money to entice students to go.

Boston College, while fairly prestigious in its own right - and certainly full of smart students - has to fight to "entice students"; it's yield rate is very low, in the 30% range.

My question still stands.

padfoot, it's called the presidential scholarship and i heard that only about 50 students every year get them and i think all EA students are automatically considered for them.

metfan-i guess that^^ means that they are hard to come by

Thank you!

It's 15 that get them, not 50.

At the info session the counselor said that 30 merit scholarships ( full tutition) are offered and typically about 15 to 18 students end up accepting the scholarship and attending BC

It's not 30 full-tuition scholarships are offered, but 30 students are invited to join a weekend visit where they under go interviews and ONLY 15 are chosen. Most who were offered the money and benefits (a lot of them) took it without hesitation.

What does EA mean?

Early action (applicants apply by Nov. 1 and are notified of decisions in December). They still have until May 1 to decide whether or not to attend. Stronger students tend to be taken during the early action round.

what's the difference between EA and ED ??? which one is the one that u must go there if u get accepted ?

ED= early decision, that is the one where u must go there if accepted, so EA is a lot better... you get to keep your options open.

are the deadlines for EA and ED the same?

bc doesnt have ed

for schools that provide EA/ED, the due dates are the same

Two kids from my school got into BC with full rides. This girl got in for music performance and was second seat for the NY All State Orchestra and 5th seat for All Eastern Orchestra. The other guy is an athlete and will be playing football for BC.

What kind of stats are needed to be considered for BC ? For any kind of merit scholarship ? Thanks. Marc

Here's a link that has info on the Presidential Scholars Program

To those who were not accepted to BC for transfer do not fret. It's certainly not the institution that many make it out to be. I just to spent my freshmen year at BC and didnt like it all. The academics are not challenging (hence my near perfect GPA), the people are fake, and the housing is terrible. I'll be at Georgetown next year and im so happy I got away from BC. If you want to be in Boston apply to Harvard, Tufts, or Wellesley. My friend who is at Harvard loves it and I know others who are happy at the others. So to those who didnt get in dont get too upset.

BC is a good school but people fail to realize that there are so many great opportunities at other schools. So im sorry if i offended anyone but I want people to "hear the other side of the story" concerning BC.
