Fun article on MIT cycling

There's a nice two-page spread on the MIT cycling team in the September issue of Bicycling Magazine, including a photo of four members in the MIT Wright Brothers Wind Tunnel. MIT won the Eastern Conference Championship this spring. The article does a Q&A with several members including Mark Cote who was featured in the Boston Globe sports section back on April 10 and reprinted here in Matt's blog: http://matt.mitblogs.com/archives/2006/04/being_a_geek_wo.html .

When Bicycling asked Cote if he could tell how fast the team would go even before they get on the bikes, he told them: "Believe it or not, last night I calculated how fast we would race today, using a spreadsheet and everything. Based upon the aerodynamic profiles we've determined in the wind tunnel, our average power output for the distance, and the course profile, I predicted that we'd cover the 10-mile course in 16:47. We rode it in 16:51."

Anyway, it's worth checking out at the magazine rack and I think it's pretty cool when the passions of MIT students are picked up in international sports publications.

Incidentally, earlier in the year, Bicycling Magazine had picked Cambridge as the No. 3 city in the U.S. for biking quality.
