fun at Cornell?

I'm back with another question. :]

Does anyone here think Cornell's campus is at all gloomy or depressing during the winter months? Do students typically feel stressed out and just generally crappy when they're bogged down with schoolwork and the weather's nasty? Or does the morale/level of fun & activities stay pretty high year round?

I'm only asking because I'm also applying to schools in North Carolina and I feel like the sunshine would just keep me from getting too overwhelmed and down.

"Does anyone here think Cornell's campus is at all gloomy or depressing during the winter months?"

Not in particular, it's about what you'd expect from a Northeast college. The mountains to the north breaks apart the snowbelt that tends to produce constant clouds and snow for the Syracuse (and north) areas. Ithaca's weather is surprisingly nicer than that of places 30-40 minutes north.

"Do students typically feel stressed out and just generally crappy when they're bogged down with schoolwork and the weather's nasty?"

Every student will get stressed out, that's just what happens at a solid college. It would also happen if Cornell was in Canc?n. The cold weather goes by faster than people think.

"Or does the morale/level of fun & activities stay pretty high year round?"

The only times when things are kind of tough are around midterms week and finals week. But, that makes for fun nights as everybody is just looking to do something else besides work so it makes for a very active few days. the university also provides quite a bit of entertainment and free massages during exam weeks.

"free massages during exam weeks."

Well I'm there!

Seriously though, thanks for the input. This part: "Ithaca's weather is surprisingly nicer than that of places 30-40 minutes north." was particularly reassuring, because I live two hours north and can hardly bare the winter weather. That's why I'd be reluctant to stay in-state for college, but I'm quite attracted to Cornell, so thanks for the insight.

ooo ur an instater. R u gonna go for the discount? (wat college?)

Yup. As you know, I'm interested in Hotel School, but my parents just can't see the point. So I'll apply to CALS. Hopefully I'll have a solid chance of getting in there!

columbia is still the most fun ivy though.

no, the city is fun, but the university itself is actually rather boring. I stay with friends at Columbia when i visit the city and they never do anything Columbia related.

My theory is you'll have to work in a city for most of your life, have fun then when you are earning money.

lol that's half the reason I applied to Cornell...to get away from the hustle and bustle, but still be close enough to go to the city!
