I know there are a bunch of clubs in my school that people create just to get together w/ friends for fun. like anime, DDR, video game club, etc. so...since these clubs don't really do anything like volunteering, are they worth putting on Apps?

I'm in my school's Ultimate Frisbee club, and I put it down as an EC, since I spend around 4 hours a week playing Frisbee during the seasons we play. On the MIT application, you only have 5 spots to put ECs, and I chose to use one of the 5 spots for this. I really enjoy Frisbee and I wrote about it in my "what do you do for fun essay" (I got into MIT). I see no harm in putting down "fun" ECs if it is indeed what you spend your time doing.

Yes, put them down. Colleges aren't just looking for achievement-drones; they want interesting people. Part of that is represented by putting down these fun activities and giving them an idea of what you are like as a person.

Think of it this way: would an admissions officer want a run-of-the-mill political science major attending there school or a political science major that is also a master underwater basket weaver? Ceterus paraibus of course.

ookay..thanks! :)

haha but to clarify--wouldn't it kinda make me look like I am not focused?

^ Nah, you have the rest of your application to show that you are.

One or two of the fun activities makes you look fun. Nothing but fun activities? hmmm... It would be good if you had something done outside of class that had a more redeeming quality than being fun.
