Fun FWS's

So, the time is upon us when we have to submit our FWS ballots.

My top 3 choices are as follows:

ENG 1168 Sem 103: Cultural Studies: Digital Media and virtual worlds.

Govt. 1101 Sem 105- Power and Politics: Causes of War and the war in iraq.

CRP 1109 SEm 102- Urban comebacks: Resiloient cities and the people who call tem home.

Does anyone know anything about these courses, i.e. are they easy?

FWSs can be hits or misses. my section was a miss, but my friend in the same FWS (but different section) loved it. it really depends on the instructor. some can be professors and others can be grad students. keep in mind the english ones may have more writing. with the FWS that are movie or filmed based, you have to be able to have time in your schedule at night to go see movie screenings. can be inconvenient for you depending on your course work…

I don’t know anything about those classes, but if you want an easy ‘A’ take Women Writing in Southern Africa. Avoid taking any FWS’s from the English or History departments- those are the hardest.

i did a govt seminar and really enjoyed it. the power and politics courses are usually pretty good… mine was like a dumbed down international relations course. there is a 3000 level course called “causes of war” which is supposedly great, and that seems like a simplified version of the same course. you will basically spend the whole class debating reasons for war… generally the reading for govt fws seemed to be journal articles (ie: shorter readings).

lol at the thread title

haha i dont know anything about these seminars but i thought the title was hilarious as well

Yeah, to me, a more pressing issue is why you refer to yourself as a slut…

As previous poster mentioned, FWS’s are a tricky field to navigate. In my spring FWS, I had an incredibly attractive TA who ran a fairly easy writing seminar from the Medieval Studies department. In the meanwhile, a friend of mine had the same course, but the other section, taught by a different TA. One could say his experience was less visually stimulating and more academically rigorous.

^hahahahaha

i took a cultural studies FWS and it was easy…although it did have a lot of reading and writing D:

If English and History make hard FWS’s, which make easy ones?

lol at ontario!! do u mind sharing who your TA was? :-p!!!

And since when did CALS changed its writing requirement to 9 credits!!! i always thought it was 6 credits :(…

@ dragonneedspank
Are you sure that the 9-credit writing requirement is not specific only to certain majors within CALS.

@ mariambaby3
Good call with changing the thread title :)

i dont think mariam changed it haha, probably the mods.

i dont think you can change your posts

yeah, you can edit your own

@irarchiedw
[CALS Registrar: CALS College Distribution Requirements](http://www.cals.cornell.edu/cals/current/registrar/current-students/cals-graduation/distribution.cfm)

Look under Written & Oral Expression and it says (9 credits, including 6 written expression)

you can edit your own only for a short period of time after posting. i can edit my last post, but not my first post in this thread

sorry, this isn’t related to what mariam is asking, but if I’m not taking a FWS till second semester (tested out of one) I just wait to submit a ballot until then, right?

@circumlocution2 Yes, just don’t fill out a ballot this semester.

if i do submit a ballot this semester but plan on taking it next semester if i get one that doesn’t completely fit my schedule, can i drop the FWS? (i.e. i could either drop some other class or the FWS)
