Furman Athletes - do they go Greek, too?

My son is thinking of attending Furman and playing a varsity sport. When we were kids at Wake Forest, some basketball, baseball, and tennis players were able to enjoy Greek life. You didn't see many football players at the frat, but others were around. Nowadays, I guess it's so time consuming to be a D-1 athlete there is no time for anything else. Same at Furman? Thanks,

I think that athletes can pledge at FU but I'm not sure why they would at FU or any other college for that matter. Just being on a sports team is like a member of a frat. They already have "brothers or sisters" and they are already are part of a "club". I think it's probably a personal thing

I think the short answer is "yes." It's personal as to why or if, not for George or I to offer any editorializing about frats and jocks, imo. I think you're probably on target though ... tough thing to do with high cost and questionable return due to time.

Off the top of my head, I am going to say it's certainly possible to do both. Rush is delayed until 2nd term, which is helpful. I will check with my D to see whether many athletes are greek ... it's fall break this weekend, so I'll report back in a few days.

Athletes can participate in greek life. However, thinking back through the associate/pledge classes from the past few years, they are few and far between. The time required (from accepting a bid until initiation) is simply too heavy on top of athletic responsibilities, course load, and other activities.
