Hi I am a Junior in my high school and I was thinking about starting a new club at school having to do with the medical feild. Does anyone have any idea of what I can do and maybe a better name. I just need some ideas to get started with my club.
You can start a HOSA club with a health science teacher. HOSA stands for Health Occupations Students of America. It’s an organization with national, state, and regional levels and students can compete in different competitions like Medical Math, veterinary science, first aid, etc. Its really an amazing organization and you don’t even need to worry about structure.
I am the president of “Future Doctors of America” at my high school. It is a student-run organization. To give you some ideas, we meet once a week and discuss nearby hospital volunteer opportunities, shadowing opportunities, combined bs/md medical programs, accelerated PA programs, and EMT training opportunities. We learn various types of sutures using foam boards, perform medical examinations (basic ear, eye, respiratory, neurological, etc exams), and frequently have guest speakers (such as doctors, NPs, PAs, etc). As mentioned in the previous comment, I would name the club something more broad such as Future Health Occupations Students of America… Many students feel that our club is only for people aspiring to become doctors, and we have struggled to attract aspiring nurses, pa’s, and np’s due to our name! Good luck!
@xxluvforeverxx we have HOSA at my school. I think it’s more inclusive than just doctors. and the competitions seem cool even though ive never been able to participate. But it would be kinda difficult to start as a student at least imo
I am interested in starting HOSA at my school because a school in a nearby town had it and I thought it was nice and a lot of people were participating. However, I do agree that it would be hard to start as a student.
