FWS Issues...

Hey, I'm currently in Greek Myth writing seminar with Professor Ziogas. He is a nice guy, but my grade in the class is currently abysmal. I got a .5/1 and a 0/1 on both graded writing assignments so far. My writing style was basically destroyed by the grader despite how previous English teachers told me it was good in the past. I also got a 5 on both AP Lit and Lang and 790 on Writing (not that that matters), and have typically done well in English in the past. But like the average grade for these first two assignments was a .5 (which is equivalent to a C), but the median grade for the class is an A. Does anyone have any experience with this class? Could this be a different teacher who has a completely different grading style? Do the FWS classes typically start this hard, because I've heard of other woes? Should I drop (I have credit so would have to take 2nd semester)? Thanks.

PS: I'm having issues because I am trying to transfer to AEM from CAS, and I've heard gpa is the main criteria.

Oh also, I have 17 credits currently including gym, is 14 too little?

Ha, the woes of FWS.

Most everyone who comes into Cornell was told at some point in their academic career that they are a wonderful writer, better than everyone else in their grade.

And then you get to college writing.

If the median grade is an A, then don’t worry about the grades you are getting in class, they will be scaled at the end. Just stick through it and don’t let your ego get in the way and it will be fine.

I’d go to office hours and have the prof. go over your writing with you. With new English teachers, it usually takes a little while to figure out what it is they’re looking for, but office hours would help.
