I was doing my taxes with CreditKarma’s new free service and they gave me the $2000 lifetime education credit. I definitely do NOT qualify for this as my tuition & fees (etc) are covered as part of my funding package.
I put up a PSA on facebook and it turns out that several other people had the same issue. One even had the issue with TurboTax (though others had it entered correctly).
I ended up using H&R Block and just paying the $30 state file fee because everything seemed to be entered correctly there and the $30 was worth the peace of mind.
