GA Tech EA 2022

Georgia Institue of Technology is my first choice. I go to a predominantly white, small(there are 12 people in my graduating class), private school(I’m the only black female at my school) in east Texas. If I get into to GA Tech I plan to get my Master’s degree in Computer Engineering. My GPA is not the best at 3.5 unweighted but I have a bunch of EC’s and I’ll be the first generation in my family to go to college plus I attended my school on a Math scholarship.

EC- Captain of Robotics Team, Z-Club treasurer, Vice-President, Spanish Club, Crochet Club, Varsity History Bowl(First Place in Regionals), Tennis Manager, Basketball Manager, member of two bank boards, Student Section Treasurer, Mock Trial lawyer, National Honers Society, 3 different TAPPS events, and Secretary of the Guinean Associate of Texas.

I also manage my mom’s business’s social media accounts with 34k followers on Instagram.

Our school makes us volunteer so I have 60 from school and 30 of my own

AP classes: Psychology, English 3&4, Statistics, physics, biology, Calculus AB, Government

My school is a college preparatory school so there aren’t any honors classes and we don’t rank.

I am fluent in French and Fulani and understand conversational Spanish, thanks to Spanish 3

I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet

I was homecoming duchess and voted most friendly two years in a row as well as best writer.

What’s your weighted GPA? If it’s at least a 3.9 or so, your chances are much better than if it’s not a lot higher than 3.5. Because if it’s also on the low end, then you’d need a killer test score (1550/34+) to be competitive, and that’s after getting any potential boost for being first generation/a minority woman in STEM…

@kingbibi GaTech has been much more selective than normal this year, my personal opinion is that they’re trying to start a shift to become an east coast caltech. Who knows though. So she may need even higher scores than your estimates to get in next year, if they continue along the trend.

Certainly discouraging to hear that. But they’ve gotta game the rankings somehow, eh?

It became very hard to get into. I know people who got denied with 4.0+ gpas, great test scores, and great ECs. I have a friend who has a 4.5, 34+ act and a matching sat, fantastic ECs, and was national merit (I don’t know how far she made it). Both of these people also had between 8 and 11 AP classes. Then again, I know people who got in with lower test scores and gpa. It’ll definitely be a reach, but you should apply! What is your weighted gpa? Make sure you take the act/ sat soon so that you have enough time to get the score you want. They got A LOT more applications this year than they did last year.

@kingbibi exactly.

On the post, it’s really tough to gauge your performance without any understanding of what your school is like, but a 3.5 will be pretty universally looked down upon by GTech. You’ll need some stellar ECs, national level recognition or something to start to make up for that. Try to get straight As next semester, and first semester of senior year t show you’re capable of performing at the college level. As kingbibi said, study hard for standardized tests. You’ll have to get some stellar scores to realistically give you a good chance, but if you can pull it off, great. Take some more leadership roles in school clubs, see what you can do. A lot will hinge on those scores.

I failed to calculate my 1st semester of 11th grade. Unweighed my cumulative GPA is 3.69 and 3.7 weighted.

My stats are:

9th grade 3.39uw and 3.24w
10th grade 3.38 both unweighted and weighted
1st semester of 11th grade 4.29uw and 4.54w

And I’m aiming for at least a 30 on the ACT

You have to study hard and get an excellent ACT or SAT, that makes it much easier to get into Ga Tech. My son was accepted this year, his ACT composite was 36, it made a difference, because his GPA was not that amazing 3.75 (uw.). His High School is very competitive, he was 1st out of 126.
His essays were very good too! Start working on your essays, it takes time to make good ones! @Amib91
