My dilemma is whether or not GA Tech, and UMD, are worth the extra money for an aerospace engineering degree. Would I be making that much more money after college, or working for a better company/having a better job, if I paid the extra $80,000 a year to go to ga tech or umd over UF? I (well me and my parents) can afford either school and we all want me to get the best education possible, Would I be getting an equally good education and have equally great opportunities at any of these three schools?

I have to pick a school by MAY 1 the latest so quick replies would be great. Thanks!

Short answer: UF would be the logical choice for financial reasons, as it is a top-25 school that you can go to for very reasonable cost. Major aerospace companies will not offer different salaries for any of these schools. You may want to consider GaTech and pay the extra expense if, for some reason, you think you may thrive there as opposed to UF or UMCP with it’s more engineering-centric focus…some do, but some don’t. So you really need to figure out where you think you’d be most happy and do your best.

If the money will not strain your family’s finances, I suggest GT if we’re considering academics alone. However, you may want to weigh for yourself the fact that there are many more men than women, the competition is more stiff (and grading is pretty harsh as far as schools go), and it’s near the center of a big city.
