GA Tech vs. University of Michigan

I think so too. I can see many people choosing langugage over humanities if given the choice.

I am from Atlanta and I chose Michigan over GT. GT is in a bad part of downtown Atlanta and I would not feel comfortable walking around by myself at night or even during the day off campus. I am female, but many of my male friends at GT don't feel safe walking alone either. There are strip clubs and other unsavory stores just off of campus and I have heard horror stories of people being carjacked, witnessing crimes, being approached by "ladies (and men) of the night", etc. I have never felt unsafe walking by myself at Michigan, even at night.

My friends at GT seem to have no time for social activities because they have so much work. I am an engineering major at Michigan but I still have time for multiple clubs. I know GT does offer a lot of actitivites but I'm not sure how many people actually have time for them.

Engineers have no foreign language requirement at Michigan. You can take the placement test if you want to earn humanities(first 4 credits) and elective(second 4 credits) credit for a foreign language without taking any classes. I earned 8 credits this way.

I have lived in the Atlanta area my entire life so I was worried about the cold weather in Michigan. It has not been as bad as expected, though, and you should NOT let weather be the determining factor in your decision. I bought a down jacket, snow boots, and long johns and I am perfectly fine in the snow.

If the costs are approximately the same for you, I would definitely go with Michigan.

i am new to this site and dont really know how to start a thread…:stuck_out_tongue:
my question is
I have secured admits into gatech as well as Texas A & M for MS in power systems(both without aid)…Which one do you think I should take up??..(as in spendin a lot and takin up gatech is worth the money or else there is no big difference between the two univs nd i can take up cheaper tamu???:p)

mellohappy : I’m from Georgia as well and am looking at UMich is one of my top choices. How was the OOS financial situation? That is one of my huge factors regarding my decision between GT and UMich.
