Gap Year After Freshman Year

I just finished the first semester of my freshman year at Indiana with a 3.7 GPA. I wanted to know if it is possible to take a year off then apply to schools as a freshman with my current college grades and possibly receive credit for them or would I have to use my high school credentials?

Additionally, is it possible to apply for a transfer then defer enrollment?

Thanks!

P.S. Merry Christmas!

If you only have one semester of college grades, you will need to submit your high school and your college credentials. (Many colleges don’t require high school “stuff” if you are applying to transfer for junior year). You can take a year off of college at any time, but I would recommend making sure you have asked professors for letters of recommendation before the gap year.

You cannot defer transfer acceptance. You have to attend the first term, then you may take off.

So if I wanted to take a year off then come back to a different school, how would I go about doing that?

Simply withdraw from your current school. Then when you wish to re-enter college, simply apply via transfer application and send in the required materials. You may want to get letters of recommendation now, as it may be more difficult to obtain them later. Note however that you are technically not supposed to see your letters of rec. prior to acceptance at XZY school.
