Gap year prior to Transferring

Hi everyone. I am hoping that I could get some advice on this topic. I am currently about 8 classes away at my local community college from getting my A.A. degree. However, I would like to transfer afterwords to a 4 year university. My councilor told me I have two options and I would like advice on which one is wiser. My first option is to rush and complete my college essays and applications this month because it is due by the end of November. Plus taking about 2 winter classes and 6 spring classes to finish all of my requirements. That way I could apply for fall of 2020. My other option is to take my time without rushing and spread out my classes finishing next fall with my A.A. and apply for fall 2021 for the for years while spending that spring of 2020 interning, or traveling and getting real life experience. Overall this is very long and confusing, but if anyone has any advice please do not hesitate as I really need it!!

I absolutely do not see any problem with taking a gap year. If you can get reasonable research or internship opportunities these can be very valuable. Even working at a rather mundane job (serving customers at McDonalds is the obvious example) will give you some real work experience which IMHO has some value for all of us.

You could of course send in a small number of applications, and if you don’t get into a school that you want to attend then do the gap year.
