I'm a senior in H.S. and have already applied to a variety of colleges. However, I have been thinking lately that I would like to pursue a gap year, one filled with volunteering and traveling. I'd like to do something where I can interact with children (teaching for instance) or helping individuals who are less fortunate than me (maybe disaster relief). I'd like to go out of the country, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet. I'd like to stay in the U.S. and I have had friends who have taken gap years and they've absolutely loved it. Right now, I'm just trying to persuade my parents in letting me take a gap year. What are some programs I should look into besides Americorps? I would ideally prefer something that gives me a stipend and housing. Thanks!
