Maybe I’m looking too deep into the matter but on March 8,2011 amidst all the excitement of email finalist notifications,I called the 1877 number and got the “a letter has been sent out…” message. What puzzles me is that RayJohn stated that his letter was dated March 10. I just don’t get it. I was under the impression that a letter had already been sent out meaning it would have a pre-March 10 date. Anyone else care to chime in?? I’m just gonna chill and let the chips fall where they may. I’ll wait on the letter. I’m in Texas and have yet to receive any letter.

Don’t give up hope if you haven’t got anything yet…just think if there were 23500 applicants that’s 23500 letters all across the nation!!! I would give it one more week

@AcademicLebron Thank you. I’m glad someone else on here is optimistic. btw i love your username

the letter didnt say how many finalists were selected

Yea you guys, have faith. At least wait till the last week of march to worry. We still have time.

I don’t believe all finalist have been notified yet. I am hoping they are doing it according to how early or late you submitted. There are still 3 weeks left of March and although I am losing hope I am trying to stay optimistic and so should all of you who still haven’t gotten anything

@journe2success, what part of jersey are u from… ill just say have faith, pray and dont lose hope till u see a letter or reply from gmsp

@dcollegeapps i’m from Northern NJ. What part are you from?

Everyone, what RayJohn claimed (as far as receiving a rejection letter) is NOT true. Simply put: all notifications have yet to be sent out.

o: good luck to everyone!

Hey guys don’t lose hope, remember not every one sent their application through the website, so of course some of us are going to recieve a notification through the mail. Everyone is going to get a letter of some kind either one regarding a rejection or one stating you’re a finalist. No matter what, all of us are intelligent and are going to go very far in life and we don’t need a scholarship to tell us that. We still have months left till we’re off to college, so fill out all the scholarships you can, I did! $500 adds up!!

This is the second time i state this, but I received the letter is on its way message… Happened to be I am a finalist. So don’t come to a conclusion unless you have the email or letter in front of you. Have hope! And AWashington is right, those other scholarships add up. Good luck everyone!

^congrats!

when did you receive it?

@journey2success im from northern jersey also… essex county to be more precise

@ cremedelacreme everything I said was true, trust me I wouldn’t lie about anything like this…but CONGRATS TO ALL FINALISTS!!! and for those who have yet to receive anything, I am praying for you all!

@dcollegeapps yeah i’m from Essex County too. I’m from one of the Oranges, to be more exact. When did you hear that you were a finalist?

Reading posts from past years and this year, what RayJohn says is true. The no letters are out.

Gates e-mailed Finalists starting March 8; all have been sent. It looks like letters to Finalists went next and now, it seems, calls are going to Finalists to confirm they have the letter.

Letters to people who aren’t Finalists started being sent last week; they will all come from Virginia, so it is likely that someone in NJ would have received the letter already. Most of the no letters will get to people early next week. It looks like e-mails were only sent to Finalists, everyone else gets letters.

RayJohn is correct, the letter says more than 23,500 students sent in applications. Last year there were 1,900 finalists, same again. 1,000 people, about 1/2 of them will be picked. Looking through the posts from previous years, you’ll see that Gates tells all the winners at the same time by mail sometime in the middle of April.

I agree with you.I believe there is no rhyme nor reason as to the notification process
because our modes of application submission varied. I submitted my nominee application online on December 9,2010. My recommender and nominator did not complete their parts until the due dates.I ended up sending them with the required postmark on January 10,2011.
