For the leadership activities, for the Date From do we put the date we started at that position or the date we started participating in the club? Like, if I’m President of Club B since 2010 but a member since 2008, do I put Date From as 2008 or 2010???

And, say I was VP one year and P the next, would that be two separate boxes, or just choose the highest one?

I SUBMITTED!!! i feel great! So happy i finished the application. Feel a huge amount of relief. Now we all play the waiting game! Ahhh i hope i get it! I put my heart an soul into those essays. Congrats to all who submitted!

DEADLINE HAS PASSED. Now we wait… The anticipation is killing me ! & It barely ended a few hours ago. Well, good luck everybody.

Good luck all! I hope everyone who needs it and deserves it will get it. =]

By the way, does anyone know if the Gates Scholars are really chosen by race?

I heard it was something like 150 Asians, 150 American Indians, 350 Africans, 350 Hispanics.

Does anyone know if it really is like that? AKA all the Asians competing for 150 scholar slots, all the American Indians competing for 150 scholar slots, etc.?

^
Yes, it is broken down by ethnic catagory, but I have never heard what the exact breakdown is.

I submitted last night! I’m so nervous!!! How many finalist will ther be? Does anyone know?

I’ve heard there are around 1700-2000 finalists.

I’m nervous too! Submitted my App a couple months ago but I’m still nervous! Good luck to all though!

& the waiting game begins. So whilr we wait … How about we talk about something else ? Like what schools you guys are planning on going or what other scholarships you guys have applied to or received .

Well I’m from MA so I got the John and Abagail Adams Scholarship but it’s useless to me because I don’t want to go to school in MA. I applied to the University of Denver, University of Tampa, Stetson University, and Colorado State Univrsity

hello, I tried submitting my application 15 minutes before the deadline but it would not let me log in.I think it was a glitch or a crash but it is totally unfair how I did not get the same amount of time as everyone else ( some people had until 12:05 EST)

Have you guys met anyone who has had a successful APPEAL with deadlines? I was heartbroken to say the very least…

So it seems this scholarship is for students with less than stellar SAT scores…

Does anyone know what can be made with mistakes made on the applications? I noticed a mistake on mine…
@lakeawead, why do you say so?

I don’t think you can fix mistakes once the application is sent. I tried and it won’t let me log on.

So I heard straight from one of the gates ambassadors himself that the scholarship was not grouped into different ethnicity’s, and that the best of the applicants get it.

I don’t think they are divided into certain amounts of scholars per group either. Because the best thousand get it. However though, the applications are divided into their own group, APIASF, UNCF, HSF, and AIGCS. And then it will be review holistically by an independent reader. I don’t know what happen after that… Maybe they all put the qualified ones in a big pool? Then pick the finalists… then scholar.

It’s only January and I submitted the app about five days ago. The only thing that runs through my mind is the result of the hard work I put into this application. From the essays to the community service and grades. Everyone deserves the best and I am hoping that we all are happy with the outcome!

Does Gates millennium offer a laptop stipend?

i don’t think they do.
