Several wrote about the Gateway program. I worked at Holy Cross. The Gateway program financially rescued Holy Cross. It wouldn’t be in business without this tuition revenue. It will be a shoo-in to be admitted to ND as a sophomore. HIstorically, 99% of gateway students are admitted. Do you get a rigorous education? Probably not. The teachers are not PhD’s and are semi-retired practitioners. Will you save money? For sure-It costs only $30,000 to go to Holy Cross. In fact, I don’t know why more students and parents go this route. The Gateway program grows each year. So, more will have the chance.
How many kids are accepted into the program this year. Also, what are the average stats for these selected students?
67 kids are in the Gateway program this year. About 20 more from last year. My child does have a PhD professor for
both Physics & Math so I’m not sure why blackingitup states they don’t have PhD’s at the school. It’s been a great program so far.
Sorry I forgot to tell her the stats 34 ACT with a 4.4 GPA
I believe you don’t apply for the Gateway program, you are chosen by the university to go if you wish. Also, it’s for Arts and Letters intent - so if you put down business, science or engineering as a major, you probably won’t get the offer. It’s a great opportunity to be a part of the ND community and live on campus as a sophomore.
@momof2nd Make sure I have this straight. Your daughter had a 34 ACT, a 4.4 weighted GPA, was a legacy candidate, and was admitted to the Gateway Program over at Holy Cross?
She was not legacy. She was put on the waitlist at ND. She got offered The Gateway Program at the end of May.
Similar for my daughter. 33 ACT, 4.3 weighted GPA, not legacy. Wait list at ND and offered Gateway at the end of May. She has several PhD’s as professors as well and she is very happy with the program so far.
The Gateway program is a terrific option to transfer to ND. If you have a daughter and are not offered a Gateway invitation, you are missing a fantastic opportunity if your daughter does not apply to Saint Mary’s. SMC is a top 100 LA school with access to 150 clubs between ND/SMC, Co-exchange classes, Student Section tickets, a joint newspaper and a 3-2 LA/Engineering program. SMC and ND students have collaborated on patents and research. SMC’s are very successful in transferring into ND and are well represented in ND grad programs. Many of SMC’s professors are ND grads as well. Merit aid is outstanding - my daughter essentially went to SMC for what it would cost to stay in state and go public.
