My kid’s going!
Having problems finding info on design and build competition teams. is there a list online somewhere? A building where they All have space? What’s the best way to get info?
@countertenormom I don’t think they have a decent list anywhere. The design teams use several different labs, on campus and off.
This document has most of the (engineering) student groups and includes some of the design teams.
Here’s a link to the Gator Motorsports team (my Aero Engineering son is a current member).

Several of the design teams have space in MAE C, which is the building right across from East Hall (the engineering LLC). They also use an off campus UF location. But you may want to stop by this building and see if anyone is hanging out. They will have signs outside of the building for some of the design teams, so it’s hard to miss.
SubjuGator is another design team that I think is based out of MAE C.
Sometimes you can find a listing of design teams that are associated with a student group, like ASME.

GatorLoop is UF’s entry into the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition
My son checked at a few, before deciding on Gator Motorsports.
Good Luck!
My son is going as well-seems like a great program! Would anyone know if it will be too late at that point to decide on the Engineering LLC? We don’t know anyone who has lived in one but coming from out of state it sounds like a good idea. Do you know if the LLC would have intramural teams or anything of the sort or if my son would be better off doing the Out of Stater Gator LLC. I could ask in a different forum too if that would make more sense! The Design teams sound great too! He’s very excited about UF Engineering. He got accepted to Summer B so not sure if the Engineering LLC is even available then. We have lots to learn!
@momofthreeinma My son was in the Engineering LLC (it’s not too late to pick it, you should have plenty of time to choose). It’s not going to be as social as the OOS Gator, but that’s likely because the engineering kids are a bit more reserved. It is at a good location (for engineering) being closer to many of the engineering/stem classes.
It was real convenient for my son, since he joined the Gator Motorsports team (design team), and they are located right next to East Hall.
All of the halls have intramural teams, events, etc.
I don’t think they do the LLC’s over the summer. Instead they have ALL of the freshman located in the same few dorms. Makes for a much more social experience. It’s a lot less stressful over the summer, and easier to make friends.
An email just came out a couple days ago notifying students to register their housing preferences so it is not too late to apply for the LLC.
Thank you @Gator88NE and @mycreativealias for your responses! Sorry I’m replying so late-was away. I think the Engineering LLC would be great for my son too. He’s more on the reserved side as well and it seems like it would be a better environment to succeed in an engineering program.
