Gauchospace and Plagarism

Does gauchospace check for plagiarism? And if it does can I get the source where you got that information from thanks

Not sure if this is what you are looking for.

“Keep copies of past papers, or have students submit papers electronically via Gauchospace or a Pairwise provided upload site, and use the electronic paper comparison system hosted by Instructional Development. To use this resource, contact George Michaels at x2378”

This is from the website.Does it mean that it checks automatically or only if the professor wants to run it through the system?

@svlab112

Sorry. I don’t have any inside information. I’m guessing if the professor uses the system it will notify the teacher if there is a “match”. In other systems, like turnitin it usually gives a percentage rating.

The professor may have an academic dishonestly policy that provides additional information.

If you’ve done something dishonest, you’ll likely have to face the consequences. However, I like to believe one will learn from their mistakes and have more compassion for others who mess up.

Yeah its at a 93% on one website and on the others it does even detect it because I used everything in my own words, and have my own data just I used the another old students paper as reference in addition to my sources. The part that has me worried is that I used some of the same sources for information the formatting is generally the same and some things you couldn’t really change that much like the methods or how to interpret results and that part is what comes up as a “match”
@svlab112

*doesnt even detect it

You’ll likely have to wait and see what happens. Obviously, 93% match is problematic. If you were my kid, you’d get the “what were you thinking, I raised you better” lecture. Then, I’d tell you—you will get through what ever happens. Maybe you’ll fail the class and have to take it over. Okay, you can do that. What ever the outcome, you can handle it. This does not need to define the rest of your life. Make a decision today to do better.

Two of my college age kids lost friends to suicide within a few months last year. My perspective now tends to me more forgiving and less punitive. I believe in second chances.

I found out that gauchospace doesn’t automatically check but theres another system that they can run it through and if they do the other students paper comes up as a 5% match and theres a chance they will look into it and see the similarities but on the off chance that they don’t then everything will be fine I but even if I don’t get caught this really opened my eyes and don’t want to put myself through this experience again because its agonized not knowing whats going to happen

Oh and I think that I wrote my previous reply wrong I meant to say 93% original and 7% to online sources
@svlab112

Certainly, 7% percent puts you more on the fence. For me, sometimes the waiting is worse than the outcome.

I did fail a physics class final quarter of college and had to return to take a single class. I never told my parents. Mind you I’m now 50+ and my parents are in their 80s. I was too embarrassed and filled with regret. Now it seems inconsequential.

In the end, I finished my science requirement. The funny thing is that I have no recollection of which class I took to fulfill my science requirement. At the time, I was consumed with my failure. I went on to get a masters degree and earned a top GPA.

Yeah I’m just hoping since its still in the 90’s the TA won’t look into it that much, and everything will be fine. Thank you for the story though gives me hope even though I’m not in my final quarter yet I am struggling with physics. @svlab112
