<p>How are gay students accepted at UNC? How is Gay life as a student at UNC?</p>
<p>i actually just registered to answer this question - i read about unc on this site last year when i was picking schools - and was just poking around remebering sr year and saw this and thought the people should know - gay life at unc is GREAT. (if you’re a guy). me and my friends estimate 1/5 of the guys here are gay, and sometimes walking thru campus i get so much male eye contact its almost annoying. if oyu were sexually frustrated in hs, this is the place for you. i haven’t even gone to the gay group, i hear they’re kinda weird, but i have great gay friends and have become so much more comfortable with being gay and my sexuality, AND met lots of hot gay boys. gay parties, gay clubs, there aren’t a ton but they definitely exist. i would definitely recommend carolina to gay guys.
girls, on the other hand - its different. i know some lesbians who love it, others who feel frustrated that they have a hard time finding other gay girls, altho there are a fair amount here. they’re just less visible than the guys.</p>
<p>I’m not a gay guy or a lesbian but my gay friends seem very satisfied in terms of acceptance and dating life. That said, I really haven’t met a lot of lesbians who are out and so I just don’t know what that scene is like. I would assume it’s accepting but, I simply don’t know.</p>
<p>my friend is a junior at UNC and he is gay, he has no problems with acceptance, or with social life, I guess it is almost a non issue at UNC, which it is pretty cool. Good luck!</p>

<p>I think the 1/5 estimate is HIGHLY exaggerated. That said, one of my son’s best friends while at UNC came out during his freshman year. To the best of my knowledge it was never an issue…I think that UNC on the whole is a very tolerant and accepting place, far more than many other schools in NC and certainly more than at other more “southern” schools.</p>
<p>In my summer course at UNC, there were two gay guys in my class. I don’t know if they were dating or what. One day they dressed up in dresses and heels with makeup. No one bullied them, but they definitely got some weird looks.</p>
<p>Lots of gay students at UNC, gay life is great. Couple of good bar nights, though they are infested with straight girls who ‘just want to dance’.</p>
