The usual, very driven, good leadership qualities,

I got into Northeastern but due to financial reasons, I couldn't attend.

looking at top tier schools....

looking at
W&M

HELP! (Seriously)

Any help…

You might want to ask about NYU on the NYU messageboard unless you already have.

He probably just copied and pasted. We could probably answer anyway since he mentioned W&M on the bottom =P

You have great ECs, but your stats are pretty low, especially out of state. It would be a battle to get in.

with those AP scores, I would question your ability to fit in academically at W&M.

So pretty much, it’s a no. My EC’s, the fact that I am an URM and my Essay/Recs wouldn’t help? or my major…

No one can say for certain. Only their opinion and the statistics. Apply and perhaps you would be the one in from the bottom of the curve. Good luck.

Well, your EC’s look very strong and varied, and your ACT score isn’t bad, (although if you can get that up a couple of points, so much the better) - and the fact that you’re a URM certainly can’t hurt - male or female? “Male” would be significantly easier.

Um, but which “Orange County”? Are you in-state? If OOS, I don’t think finances are going to get much easier for you than from Northeastern.

You didn’t mention GPA/class rank, though, that will have a lot to do with your chances; if you’re top 25%, you’re still in the game.

The AP scores are a concern - you have to be honest with yourself; can you keep up academically? It’s of little benefit to anyone to get in, but flounder because you can’t keep up. But AP scores aren’t evaluated in admissions decisions - of course, AP course grades are. So, it comes back to your grades as far as admissions chances go.

So, if you’re in-state, urm, male, top 25% class rank, I think you’ve got a decent chance - a reach, maybe, but a decent chance.

As noted, no one here knows for sure; even if every last one of us here said “no way”, that carries zero weight. And I’m sure we all know people we said that about who were admitted. So, don’t let us decide for you. As I say, if your GPA / rank are “in-range”, I’d say “go for it” - but be sure to apply to others as well, like JMU and VT.

The CC / transfer option can be a good one as a fall-back.

Good luck!

Why would you even send those AP scores with your transcript if they are that bad…

they come with the transcript. I can’t take them off…

Any way you could get that changed. Honestly, all those AP scores look like to an admissions counselor is that you either took AP’s and just aren’t up to snuff with the rigor or that your school itself is weak. Either one are big problems. I’d look into it. Otherwise try to explain them some how.

W&M doesn’t review AP scores as part of the admission process. The focus instead is on the classes you took and the grades you got. W&M knows that AP exams aren’t everyone’s cup of tea so don’t worry about that. You won’t know your chances until you apply but it sounds like you have much to offer a campus personally and your SAT (1300) is actually a bit higher than your ACT (28 = 1260). Given W&M’s holistic review process you should apply
