Probably due to engineering (14% of incoming freshman) and business (26%) more than football.
Some schools are essentially practicing affirmative action for men. Men are accepted at a higher rate with lower stats, ostensibly to keep the gender balance at a proportion they think is most balanced.
Now that we are supposed to consider gender “fluid” I am guessing that statisticians somewhere are perfecting a finely sliced pie chart of gender making the balance issue fraught with nuance.
