General questions about BC housing? (freshmen)

how do they decide if you are on upper or newton campus? also, when do u get a roommate? are rooms/spots given out on a first come, first served basis?

1) Random dorm assignment. 2) Ditto, unless you request a specific roomie. Assignments will be posted in August. 3) Random computer-generated assignments to all that apply by the deadline.

What is the deadline for the housing application?

My d: started but has not finished.

last year it was late July, if I recall. But apps for Themed Housing are due a week or so earlier. Some/many? kids meet a new friend during Orientation and they decide to room together, so they jointly make that a request.

Selection is random, it used to be based on a survey allowing you to state your preference, but I believe they changed that this year. You’re also randomly assigned a roommate based on a survey (and BC seems to do a good job of pairing up students, I’ve rarely ever heard of serious roommate issues).

Is it true that requesting a Special Housing Interest floor will guarentee you a dorm on upper?

Also do you think that people who choose SHI housing are isolated from everyone else? For instance are you friends wiith anyone who participated in the shaw leadership or healthy alternative living floors?

yea i was wondering this ^too because i was really interested in applying for the shaw leadership program, but i read some review on it that said that they were isolated that they have trouble meeting people outside of the house, etc. and now im conflicted as to whether or not to apply.

I’ve been seeing a lot of questions about the Shaw leadership house. I don’t really know a lot about it- I don’t know anyone who lives in it. I live on Newton, so maybe that’s why. I wish I could tell you more. It seems like it would be great to have 20 people close by in the beginning, I don’t think you would be limited. Most of my friends don’t even live in my building, there are many other ways to meet people.

IF YOU WANT TO BE ON UPPER APPLY FOR THE SHAW LEADERSHIP PROGRAM.
Its a blast. You will get close to your housemates, get to know upperclassmen and be a part of a great community.
Did I mention you will be on upper campus.

If you’re in the honors program (for any of the four colleges) you can also apply to live in Medeiros, which is on Upper. I absolutely loved it!
