Hey guys--I just have a few questions to ask.
financial aid-what is it exactly? is it money the school gives your whether it is because of need or merit, or is it just a bunch of student loans?
scholarships--when do we usually apply for scholarships? after we send in apps or before we send in our apps?

what is a good amount if debt to come out with after 4 years?
how much is med school?

thanks

Yes,
Can be
now
Yes
no more than $20,000 but depends on what you plan on doing after graduation
a lot

Here is a good web site to start researching some info about financial aid
http://www.finaid.org/
It is generally the most up to date and accurate site. But be aware their is a Bill before the President that will, if signed, change some of the numbers for next year and subsequent years.

Financial aid can need based if you have financial need as calculated by FAFSA or CSS/Profile. It can be federal (grants, loans or work study from the government), State, Institutional (the college) or private. Merit aid is merit based (grades/test scores) and can be institutional (from the college) or private (from outside sources).

Thumper has a good posting pinned at the top of the page about how to start the process.

"how much is med school?"

Check the websites of medical schools to find out.

typically do we apply for scholarships from the colleges now, or after we send in the applications?
