<p>Okay I'm currently studying at a Community College, after I get my AS degree I wish to transfer out of state; however, the problem is that all of the AS degrees here are designed for in-state college transfers only which mean that I will take a couple of exta useless classess like spanish, finite math and so on. </p>
<p>So my advisor told me I could go with a general studies degree and pick my own classes that will fit best my desired university; does it matter whch AS degree I got after getting my BA? Will the the business degree be more fancier in a resume than a general studies?</p>
<p>You should check to see if it is important to your transfer college for you to actually earn an Associate’s degree. In some cases, you can tailor your studies for entry to your transfer college and be better-prepared to transfer than if you satisfied the requirement for an Associate’s degree. In-state, it is usually important to earn your AS because there are articulation agreements in place with your state colleges. Out-of-state colleges may only be interested in your transcript, as opposed to your Associate’s degree.</p>
<p>I can only speak for my own state (WA), but here the Associate of General Studies (AGS) and $3 will get you a cappuccino at Starbuck’s.</p>
<p>You were the one who pointed out that getting an AS would mean taking courses that would not necessarily apply to your future intended transfer major. Given that, I suggested looking into transferring without a degree, rather than earning a virtually meaningless General Studies degree. Once you get a BA/BS, your previously earned AS/AGS degree will not help you.</p>
<p>Aha I see; well what if I tried to get an A.S. in Business Administration or Accounting and change some of the unnecessary courses, do you think its going to make a difference after I get my B.A. compared to an A.S. in GS?</p>
